We've gotten a lot of complaints from people who are trying to mach bootstrap from old commits. This often fails whereas people expect that mach bootstrap will bring your machine up to a state where it can build that commit. For the record, this is not something that we support and mach bootstrap may or may not work to varying degrees. That won't be corrected at any point in the near future, but we could conceivably add a warning that checks how old your commit is and yells at you if you're trying to do this.
