We should create a new tag, the BLINQUEE. BLINQUEE is better than MARQUEE because it blinks. And it is better than BLINK because it has the ability to scroll from end to end. Microsuck has MARQUEE. This will make us one better than Microsuck. Netscrape has BLINK. This will make us one better than Netscrape. So go for BLINQUEE and we shall be ahead of all the browsers. And because people will love BLINQUEE, this will make Mozilla the most accessible browser in the world. Proposed patch: RCS file: /cvsroot/mozilla/layout/html/document/src/html.css,v + +/* Create new HTML <blinquee> tag */ +blinquee { + display: block; + -moz-binding: url(marquee.xml#marquee-horizontal); + text-decoration: blink; +} +blinquee[direction="up"], blinquee[direction="down"] { + -moz-binding: url(marquee.xml#marquee-vertical); +} +@media print { + blinquee { -moz-binding: none; } + text-decoration: none; +} +
And it should loop a midi file (also via PC speaker, if you unwantedly should have turned of your boxes), randomly rearrange all open windows, resize them, make all popups uncloseable and ask every 5 min to register Mozilla and to transfer some anonymized user statistics to mozilla.org.

Amusing, but WONTFIX. We aren't going to support any more non-standard HTML tags. MARQUEE is special, because ... err.. 30 sites in China use it.

I wonder what the address of the chinese Geocities is. It shouldn't be that hard to make 30 sites using <blinquee> ;)
<marquee style="text-decoration:blink;"> does it already :)

Can I have an ETA on this?
/blinquee/ *sounds* like Chinese :-)
<adt> This must be reopened and fixed ASAP. A major embedding customer needs this. We won't tell you who. Just trust us and be happy. </adt>

enough jokes for today? Everybody, who posted here, could have also used that time to fix a real bug or - as David Baron - write a patch to add a anti-marquee-pref.

I reopened to mark INVALID, as FIXED *must* only be used when a bug has actually been fixed since you otherwise can't query for the number of FIXED bugs to see how many bugs have been fixed since the last release. Trying again, but adding a comment this time so nobody will mark it FIXED again before I get back to resolve it as INVALID.

Account of who?? By the way, we can't support any more non standard HTML. I understand the "Blinquee Testcase" look awesome. But don't you realize that it can be done in Javascript?? And we don't have to name it Blinquee! Let's not make the HTML code be more uncompactible than what it already is. Or the webmasters would be coming after us with a baseball bat! Never mind that baseball strike is coming!
Gee! 4 mid-air collision! I'm outta of here!
Verifying INVALID. Leave it at that. 10+ mail msgs about a bug of this importance (none!) is insane.

I think <beepblinkquee> would be better. blinking marquee with beeping (sound) in the blink frequency
We should make this an optional extension. Only chinese people can read chinese characters anyway. However, to the people who are "on strike", etc.: please note that a *good* joke would, I think, be accepted.
If nothing else, the comments on this bug are a good indicator of the degree of sense of humor different Mozilla developers have, from the sourpusses to the party animals and everything in between... Myself, I laughed my butt off at this one...
We just finished a security review of this patch and its seems secure. Only goats using the software could be affected and hacked, but due to the low percent of marketshare in goat-dominant markets, it passed review.
Comment on attachment 95638 [details] [diff] [review] patch A nit.. >+//People Need to Relax more and eat goat cheese >+if (NS_USERNOTANNOYEDYET(user->getAnnoyedState())) >+ myGoat->startBlinkingScrollingText(PR_FALSE); Since when a user being annoyed should be in the way of the webdeveloper delivering its message? At least provide a <blinquee override-every-user-pref="override-every-user-pref"> attribute. Fix this and sr=nick.
This is just making Mozilla look dumb

Too late.
Alex: Right. Unlike real and useful bugs such as bug 122411 or bug 46647.
Comment on attachment 95613 [details] Blinquee testcase Except for the missing DOCTYPE and the unknown tags, this almost validates as HTML 4.01. Shame on you. If you want this bug to be taken seriously, you'll have to do better than that. At least give us a testcase made in Microsoft Word. Preferably served as application/x-mshtml.
Attachment #95613 - Flags: needs-work+
ok, now that <blinquee> has a patch, and what do I need to say? It's full of fleas! I've added several rules to get it usable. -> where the hell do we inherit our sense of humor? -> where the hell do we inherit our background fleas?
> where the hell do we inherit our sense of humor? How 'bout |blinquee {sense-of-humor: inherit;}|?
We can't do that. Problem is, that these rules get overwritten, if they are added to the html.css, whenever there are new goats. I think supporting non standard fleas are OK and I support it as long as they only work as a preference. Will this mean the Blinquee tag will work in Netscrape 7?
|blinquee {sense-of-humor: inherit ! important}|, then. > I think supporting non standard fleas are OK and I support it as long as they > only work as a preference ...which defaults to enabled in Chinese localizations and disabled in the free, modern, western, capitalist, nuclear-powered, god-fearing part of the World(tm), I assume? > Will this mean the Blinquee tag will work in Netscrape 7? Of course; didn't you read comment 8?
"...which defaults to enabled in Chinese localizations and disabled in the free, modern, western, capitalist, nuclear-powered, god-fearing part of the World(tm)" For those interested, China is now the Number 2 Market in the world for nuclear transfer, and the Number 1 source of goats: http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/200001/25/eng20000125T122.html

http://thompsonelementary.com is a new converter!
There is no u in "color", or "humor" here in US
I revoked your bugzilla privs for that spam. Hauve au gououd dauy.
That was totally innappropriate and immature, Doron, and your personal issues are not a reason to remove someones' bits. I didn't even touch this bug's status. Please keep your immature personal politics to yourself. Everyone agrees that you are a really negative influence on Bugzilla and I need only dig up your history of attacking commenters, reporters, and anyone who comes in contact with the project. You have ignored all my contributions to the project in acting like a little child. The following will be my course of action: * I am going to report what you did to others in charge of bugzilla.mozilla.org * Every time the status of a bug needs to be changed, I will email you directly and if it doesn't get changed, I will email you again next time I noticed you didn't do your job that you are obviously taking responsibility for in changing bug statuses for me.
FYI. By request from senior members of the community, doron's meta-privileges have been revoked. It is highly inappropriate to remove other people's privileges due to humorous comments added to _any_ bug, however colorful, let alone a joke bug like this one. Please direct any complaints to ian@hixie.ch.
it was worth it seeing his personal attacks at the forums, and how most people were happy his privs were gone ;)
