Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0

Steps to reproduce:

After 75.0.0-beta.6 update (few days ago) of Firefox for Android, Youtube no longer plays in inactive tab or in the backgorund (after locking the screen). This used to work fine before the update so the problem must be in FF update and not YT. This is the only reason many people use FF over Chrome on Android so I would consider this a severe regression.

Case 1:

  1. Play a youtube video.
  2. Lock the screen
  3. Video stops playing.

Case 2:

  1. Play a youtube video.
  2. Tap the Tabs button (which shows you the active tabs screen). You do not have to switch to a new tab.
  3. Video stops playing.

Actual results:

Video/sound stops playing

Expected results:

Video/sound should continue to play

This is YouTube behavior. Sometimes it plays in the background on the desktop site or possibly you had the video background play fix extension. Which would require more extension support.

Looks like I had the extension indeed and completely forgot about it. Looks like this update broke it. Oh well..
