Search News: doesn't work if target is non-ascii
Build: 0820 branch
Platform : JA Win 98 and JA Linux

Steps:
1. Subscribe a newsgroup
2. Post a couple of articles with JA subject
2. Search news with JA target( e.g.:subject/sender contains JA chars you used in
step 2)

Actual Result: No matches found
Expected Result: It should list all news which has target JA chars.

Note: 
If EN target used in News search, it's working.
Search other POP/IMAP with JA target is also working fine.

Marina, could you try this? I thought this feature was working in recent builds.

Jeesun, the search is working for me on WinXP and Linux for Subject/Sender. I am
subscribed to a couple japanese groups and entering japanese chars into quick
Search (Subject or Sender contains) returns me a match(es).I am not able to
reproduce this problem

Work for me too.
Jeesun, did you specify correct character coding on Views/character coding or
Preferences/Mail&Newsgroups/Messages display?

Did you try "advanced search" too? Did it work for you?
I tried ja win xp and en win xp with ja locale. Both didn't work.
Yes, I have iso-2022-jp for msg display and composition.

Jeesun, i was able to reproduce this problem from the Search window. If i go
Tools|Search messages and enter ja chars i am not able to find matches. Same
chars would bring me a serach results for a quick search. I am on US locale on WinXP

Change the summary to reflect that it's only happening in Advanced Search, not
Quick Search.

not News server only. I'll change the summary

What's the default encoding for composing and displaying mails? I tried 1014
branch build. It's working. Maybe it was broken in more recent build though.

i take my last comments back, i am on JA locale but i forgot to change the
message display encoding... With the default back to japanese the search is working.

I feel this bug needs to be fixed for the next release. Can we draw more
attention to this bug?

This is actually a dup of bug 64579. The problem is that there is no standard to
support non ASCII search for news.
