I'm trying to search on my newsserver for a subject that contains danish chars
and it doesn't work.
I'm searching for "еее" thats three å
The command mozilla is sending is:
0[343ff0]: Sending: XPAT SUBJECT 1- *ГҐГҐГҐ*

The main that it should be finding has the following subject:
=?iso-8859-1?Q?N=E5=E5=E5?= ja.. det virkede da =?iso-8859-1?Q?=C9N?= dag!

but it doesn't find it.

Yes, searching through accented characters seems to be
failing but I am not yet convinced that even searching
ASCII characters work all that well.

Try a newsgroup like the following:

dk.kultur.film

with search using accented characters as well as
ASCII characters and see how successful you're.

BTW, you need to have set the following pref item
to 'Western (ISO-8859-1)'.

Character Coding

If this turns out to be an internationalizatiom bug, then
it should go to taka or nhotta.

Copied comments of nhotta@netscape.com in bug 91975 about news server unicode
query support:

This is probably possible when servers start to accept unicode for a query. Here
is a draft.

Nominating for nsbeta1.

Implement the proposed draft is an enhancement, but I don't think that is nsbeta1.

getting jcranmer on this since this might be related to news code in some way..
Definitely related to news code (XPAT encoding), but I'm not easily able to confirm it here, as my knowledge of i18n news servers is slim.

I've tested this with basic western characters on three different servers I have access to (I don't see any messages that use, e.g., Arabic or CJK characters on these servers), and it worked on all three of them without problems.

This is with Thunderbird 3.0 on Linux.
