Note

  • When minimizing the Global Sharing Overlay, no minimization animation is observed. Other windows show an animation (from OS) that shows how it's going into the taskbar, but the Overlay simply disappears.

Affected versions

  • Nightly v78.0a1
  • Beta v77.0b8

Affected platforms

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 7

Preconditions

  • Make sure to have the correct values for:
  1. privacy.webrtc.allowSilencingNotifications = true
  2. privacy.webrtc.legacyGlobalIndicator = false

Steps to reproduce

  1. Engage in a (Zoom) video call.
  2. Allow the microphone and camera permission door-hangers.
  3. Click the minimize button from the Global Sharing Overlay.

Expected result

  • The Global Sharing Overlay window shows a minimization animation of it fading into the taskbar.

Actual result

  • The Global Sharing Overlay just disappears.

Regression range

  • This is a feature issue since it does not occur with the previous Overlay design.

Additional notes

  • This issue does not occur in the case of MAc or Ubuntu operating systems.
  • This issue does not occur on the version of the overlay found in Firefox Release v77.0.1.

This issue occurs on all Windows versions.

I have found a new Windows 7 system that does NOT reproduce the issue. The global sharing overlay has a clear animation when the minimize button is pressed.

It appears that this issue might be related to some OS settings so I attempted to modify any appearance-related settings that I could find, but I have not found any setting that could modify this behavior.

This issue might be invalid, but I would need someone's help in finding why on some systems the animation is visible and on others, it isn't.

Please feel free to reopen the bug if you find that it can be reproduced.
