User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0
Steps to reproduce:
Either File Message or Copy To [folder] pulls down a menu of folders (I have a LOT of folders).
This is on a Scientific Linux 6.x 64-bit system running the latest TB(68.9.0) and the previous version; never had this problem with earlier versions.
Actual results:
About 7 times out of 8, it works normally; but occasionally the whole system freezes for up to a minute before the folder menu is pulled down. Then it works normally.
Expected results:
Folder menu usually appears immediately.
Speculation: updating the "Recent" folder submenu is compute-intensive when the folder tree is complex.
Suggestion: make the "Recent" folders submenu OPTIONAL in Preferences. I never use it!

This wouldn't be done - too many people use it. And if it is impacting performance we would fix that issue rather than remove it.
What makes you think "recent" is causing your issue?

My speculation about the cause is just that. I was wondering why it has not happened before (at least, not in recent memory) and the only recent changes are addition of a mandated virus-checker, the gradual filling up of memory as I keep more applications open, and the gradually increasing number and complexity of all my folders, subfolders and sub-sub-folders. (I use TB to manage 4 different accounts). But this just started a few weeks ago without warning and is now persistent.

I'm not aware of any changes that happened a few weeks ago. But it seems like this should be helped to something like bug 1519375
