  2. Repeatedly press the Alt key to open and close Firefox's menu bar.

Result

The map background will sometimes turn all white or black with the map labels drawn on top. See the attached screenshot.

I did manage to reproduce this on a Windows 10 machine as well with latest Nightly 80.0a1, one 1 out of 2 machines tried. I noticed that it does require a few toggles of Menu bar and that the map will recover after interacting with the map, or by changing the zoom level. Here is the about:support data from my machine:

The fully-sound fix to this is not a small change I'm afraid. Content-side needs to hold these frames alive while they're in-flight to the compositor.

If there's two Presents between Transactions (like due to resize), Content-side will drop its strong-ref to the in-flight frame, causing Compositor to fail to lock the frame.


We might be able to turn on frame-pooling to try to artificially extend the Content-side lifetime, such that you'd need four Presents per Transaction to break, which might bail enough water to keep us afloat for a release.

We're WONTFIX at this point, as no quick+safe fixes I've tried have helped, and this is relatively minor. It's reproducable if you know what to try, but it's an uncommon action for users, and only happens sometimes even still.


We'll see if we can't improve in 80.
