Steps to reproduce:
If I delete a message in dark mode (using the delete key), then the message pane becomes white for a millisecond before the next message is shown with a dark background. Its a distracting white flash.
Expected results:
The message pane should not change the background color between deleting the old message and showing the next one.

I only see that using a dark operating system theme and it doesn't matter what Thunderbird theme is enabled.
On my Ubuntu 18.04.4 Linux system it would be the Adwaita-dark OS theme.
Slightly surprised that the Message pane, Account Hub, Preferences, Account settings and AOM tab are dark, while the Folder and Thread panes, Calendar tab and Today pane are light using the Thunderbird Light theme with the Adwaita-dark system theme.

I think I see something similar on Mac when Mac is set to dark mode

I see this too when the OS dark theme is enabled.
Richard, are you able to take care of this?

Hmm, I don't see this on my Linux VM and also not on Windows/Mac.
All I know, FX had some bugs about a white flash when switching tabs. Maybe this is a similar issue.

Is this issue still happening?

Set Adwaita-Dark as my Applications theme using Gnome Tweaks on Fedora 33 Workstation.
Set the Thunderbird theme to Default in each version tested, and restarted before testing.
I don't see the issue using the Fedora supplied build of 78.8.0, or the Thunderbird builds of 78.8.1, 87.0b2 and 88.0a1.

Closing this as I can't reproduce it on macOS.
We can reopen it if it happens again.
