Steps to reproduce:

After latest Thunderbird update to 78.0.1 Messages are not loaded / cannot be viewed when selected / clicked in the list.

Actual results:

View panel of Message is empty. Only if I select right click on listed Message and choose to open in new window, then message is displayed.

Expected results:

Message should be loaded and show header and body of the message.

To test a fix:

After testing, at the point where you want to get back to version 78 or 68, you'll need to use --allow-downgrade at the dos command prompt.

Hi Wayne,

I downloaded and had a go with this Thunderbird Daily. I see it is version 80.0a1. Unfortunately, I am having same problem. Messages are not loaded when I select them. I lunched old profile in new browser, as this new file does not have any emails / not sync with old profile.

Another thing I noticed is when I choose to restart Thunderbird and choose to restart in safe mode, then both versions 78.0.1 and this one 80.0a1 are showing / loading emails. But, soon as I exit Thunderbird and start it again (I am not anymore in safe mode) and again it is not Loading messages.

Help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

D

Did you try also -safe-mode and then use the "reset toolbars etc" there?
Make a copy of xulstore.json before, and post it to this bug if that didn't help.
Likely dupe of bug 1653168.

Please follow comment 3. I'm going to mark it a duplicate.
For a profile affected you still need to do the reset toolbars per above.
