User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/84.0.4147.105 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
i have serveral email accounts
Preferred one - is imap mail
a gmail one
sent from each account to the next one an email subject azerty body qwerty
Do a search CTRL+K
Actual results:
Looking for azerty finds both emails in the "sent" folder only (not in inbox)
Looking for qwerty finds only in the regular imap email 'sent' folder (not in inbox of either email).
Expected results:
see both emails both in sent and received folders of both emails acounts
Tough it may looks puzzling because I am searching similar emails both ways, the problem is that I can spot emails received in my regular email (imap) not being found when looking for a word which is in there

Works for me using version 78 - finds both messages.
Hi Wayne,
Apologies i was away with no access to my machine.
Not sure how to handle your answer - did you test this with Ubuntu 18.04 ??
I am using the default, ubuntu provided "official" version.
while i can download the version you mention, it seems it is not backward compatible, should i need to go backward
(it seems it is not really forward compatible either since it states it will not share the email already existing on my machine; so that i cannot even do a rapid test with my existing email folders)
If there is a bug with currently available version on ubuntu (and it seems there is), as major as ignoring emails with search term in "search",
it seems to me we should want to clarify this to the user base (and ask ubuntu to upgrade to a version which corrects this, since 18.04 is a LTS, and i think it is fair to say email support shall be a major functionality).
What are your thoughts on this ??

It is difficult for me to get the logic behind your words. But if I understand you correctly, you do not find some e-mails in certain folders (Sent) when you search for the body text. Correct?
Text in the body can only be found if the email has been stored locally.
So please check whether the offline store is activated for the affected folders.
E.G.: Context menu -> Properties -> /Synchronization\ -> [x] Select this folder for offline use
Apologies for being unclear in the first place.
Let me rephrase
- TB has two emails accounts, Jean and Christophe
- I send 2 emails, one from Jean to Christophe, second from Christophe to Jean; subject="AZERTY" Content="QWERTY"
- doing a ctrl+k search on "AZERTY3 in TB, will finnd 2 emails, one in the "sent" folder of Jean and 2nd in the "sent" folder of Christophe.
NO email is found in the inbox of Jean or of Christophe (while I can check the emails are there)
As suggested earlier, i have synched the inbox and sent folder of both prior to searching. - searching on "QWERTY" shows the same result.
What i would expect is TB saying it has found 4 emails, ie in both "Sent" and both "inbox" folders of each users.
See attached screenshot.
It is very puzzling, because some other (older) emails are correctly found in the inbox folders ; so it is not like the searching is completely failing.
Please advise.

why are these email found in "sent" folders but not in "inbox" foders?
For avoidance of doubts, the screenshot is the result of crl+k search, viewing list of emails found.

Did you check the 'store offline' status of the inbox?
