Steps to reproduce:

the dropdown for button-newmsg is gone in 78. It allowed to create events/tasks from the mailview.

That is very handy, because it allows to do new entries without changing tabs.
It also makes sense, because I might want to create an event after reading an email

Blocks: tb78found

Something I've never used and didn't miss, so did not notice in my testing of the release candidate or betas.

Thinking about it more, they might have been removed because Calendar is disabled when starting with a new profile and users may not want those items in the drop-down when not using a calendar.

This was removed during de-xbl, since overlaying this way (with calendar still an add-on) simply couldn't work technically. That is, upgrading a button to a toolbarbutton-menu-button on the fly is not possible. Now that it's integrated it could work technically, though I don't think there's a very good case for it.
