1-1 verification betwen legacy topsites (browser.topsites.useRemoteSetting=false) and remote settings top-sites (browser.topsites.useRemoteSetting=true) underlined the following differences:

US true - youtube, facebook, amazon, wikipedia, reddit, twitter
US false - amazon, youtube, facebook, reddit, wikipedia, twitter

CA true - youtube, facebook, wikipedia, reddit, amazon, twitter
CA false - youtube, facebook, reddit, wikipedia, amazon, twitter

DE true - youtube, facebook, amazon, ebay, wikipedia, reddit
DE false - amazon, youtube, facebook, ebay, wikipedia, reddit

FR true - youtube, facebook, wikipedia, amazon, leboncoin, twitter
FR false - amazon, youtube, facebook, wikipedia, leboncoin, twitter

[Note:]
The above tests were performed using 81 b9 and production main top-sites collection.
Each test took in consideration testing the target region with the corresponding localized build + one additional localization.

Dao, could you please take a look if the above differences are intended?

It's ultimately not intended but currently expected. Region-specific ordering is supported but will need somebody to create region-specific entries accordingly in the top sites collection. E.g. right now there's only one entry for youtube so it gets the same order in all regions.

I updated the top-sites collection on production main-preview. Please let me know if something is still amiss.

Hi Dão

This is what i checked today. Using windows 10 64bit and Firefox beta 82.0b2

services.settings.default_bucket=main-preview
services.settings.load_dump=false
browser.topsites.useRemoteSetting compared true and false

  1. The order in GB is different
  2. There is a difference in 1 engine for CN

Thanks. I updated GB again. I think the CN difference is basically bug 1663630.

Checked "GB" again and now engines match: Amazon, youtube, facebook, reddit , BBC, ebay
