Steps to reproduce:
thunderbird upgraded automatically to 78 (although said would not do so)
Actual results:
no access to emails:
on gmail, does not request authorisation
(even creating a new gmail account does not work out)
also impossible to use yahoo (even if deleting my yahoo account and setting a new one)
Expected results:
no automatic upgrade to 78;
upgrade gives access to emails

on gmail, does not request authorisation
Do you have cookies disabled?
no, it worked with the previous version,
and it works with bluebird which is my new email client until thundrbird works again
in reality, I can still send mail, not read (and not copy on the server the email that have been sent... I will see them on bluemail if I send an email to myself)
cheers
worse of all is that you stated that you would not upgrade automatically to v78
totally ruined my week

Both yahoo and gmail should work fine. You'll have to figure out what's up with your system. Antivirus/firewall causing problems perhaps?
they just don't work with thunderbird 78
any issue with this version?

Yahoo is terminally problematic, not because of Thunderbird - but that is a different matter. I use gmail, many accounts, on Mac, and works fine.
But we can acknowledge that you are having issues. I agree with Magnus, look for something in your environment:
- start Mac in safe mode https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/start-up-your-mac-in-safe-mode-mh21245/mac
- still in Mac safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird
Many more people can help you, more quickly than we can here, at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/thunderbird than can help you here.
Hi Wayne
Is the link to a different support?
Anyway, after a lot of trouble, I could reinstall thunderbird 68, disconnect the internet to prevent the update to the sh*y 78, disable automatic updated, and get things working again
I'll see when version 80 is around whether you have mastered the transition from 68 to the next
(this update and the way transition is managed was very unprofessional !!)
cheers

It is not unusual for updates to involve problems with other software, which require exploration in support. Bugzilla, where we are at now, is where we fix proved bugs, is not support. Support is at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/thunderbird where there more people, at more hours of the day, with more experience in user support issues like gmail and yahoo.
