From Javaun: We are going to change the brand name to Ion in 82. If it is possible do we want to land that asap. Otherwise we will have to uplift. We would do a topical search/replace on about pioneer including all modals. All UI visible instances, including the about page name (and the toolbar linkage to it).
Out of scope: pings, prefs, repo names etc. Also out of scope: inline URL hyperlinks (i.e. SUMO pages). We can redirect the pioneer URLs to the new location

[Tracking Requested - why for this release]: We need to change the product/program name from Pioneer to Ion. Pioneer speaks a bit to colonialism and the mass destruction that happened in the US. We'd like to move away from this.
Low risk, string changes.

Unless we over turn it, I propose that we exclude URLs from this rebrand. Do not change any instances of SUMO URLs with "pioneer" in them.
There are at least 2 Pioneer SUMO pages in existence, the general one and the Data Management one. The data management one is still unpublished. Rob, I will check with Alicia and Michelle about how hard it was for them to get that URL. I have confirmed that SUMO can redirect (like any web server can do) old URLs to a new one.

Hm. So I think this is most likely an existing intermittent that we have seen before, which has been really hard to reproduce, but is coming up again since we changed the name of the test file. I'm going to see if I can figure out the underlying cause.

I'm having a really hard time reproducing this on try, even with TV... I suspect what happened here is that we're getting a bunch of extra TV runs since the test was renamed, so it looks like a new test (and not an existing very occasional intermittent).
We've had a very low-volume intermittent since we added the initial Telemetry pings here and we're pretty confident it's the test and not the code that's the problem. I think for right now we should skip-if = verify
on this test, and we can completely redo this as we start landing the new in-progress UI. In particular, we're going to separate the front-end UI from the backend Ion service, so we should be able to unit test the latter and test the former in isolation.

FYI, "Ion" is a term used heavily in gecko source code for the IonMonkey JavaScript JIT. (eg web searches for "firefox ion" will go there). That said, we are phasing out this compiler over the rest of this year and will phase out the name.

Bug 1665957 - rename Pioneer to Ion
Beta/Release Uplift Approval Request
- User impact if declined: We'll go out the door with a project name that has a potentially awful, white colonialism background to it. We don't want that.
- Is this code covered by automated tests?: Yes
- Has the fix been verified in Nightly?: Yes
- Needs manual test from QE?: No
- If yes, steps to reproduce:
- List of other uplifts needed: None
- Risk to taking this patch: Low
- Why is the change risky/not risky? (and alternatives if risky): This is a simple search and replace kind of bug. We replaced the name "Pioneer" with "Ion," in about:pioneer. No changes to Firefox elsewhere.
- String changes made/needed: N/A

It is, definitely. We'll be engaging with an outside agency to craft the brand, shortly. We expect "Ion" to be temporary until that work is complete.
