Pioneer is a program which allows Firefox Desktop users to volunteer to share their data with Mozilla. This is a relaunch of the original program (v1) of the same name and goals, which was implemented as an add-on.

Pioneer v2 will be integrated into Firefox, with the ability to have either built-in features or add-ons engage with the user for the actual data collection piece.

This breaks down into three primary tasks:

  1. design and implement a clearly-defined user experience which allows users to opt-in/out of the program as a whole
  2. offer specific opportunities to share data, with a clear second opt-in/out
  3. send data securely to Mozilla's servers
