Ian, can you clarify?
Do you want to drag a contact into the open "Edit list" dialog, or onto a mailing list item which is in the same results list with the contact?
The latter is bug 97854
I want to drag a contact from the main list onto Mailing List Item. If the item already exists, it should not be duplicated. An issue to consider is if a contact is dragged from one Address Book to another and the item is in a Mailing List in the source, does it get duplicated in the destination Address Book or deleted from the source Address Book Mailing List.
If one is editing a Mailing List, the dialog has blocking focus, so dragging to a Mailing List edit window is not possible.

Thanks. Note: You can drag a contact into a mailing list item shown in the directory list, see my screenshot on bug 1779825.

We have some precautions in place, but in general, the mailing list design needs some love, which it will probably get for TB 114.

Yes, Bug 135126.
