This upgrade has to be done by the plugin-installer itself, not Mozilla. It
seems that your installer found the copy of Netscape 4.8 on your disk, and
replaced the plugin there. But it didn't do the Mozilla and Netscape 7 plugins.
They continued to use your old plugin, which didn't exist anymore --> crash.

Can't you copy the plugin manually from the Netscape 4.8 plugins directory to
your Mozilla plugins directory ?

PS : I'm glad that I'm using a Mac - there's only a single plugins directory,
which is used by all the different browsers (Mozilla, Netscape 7, iCab, Internet
Explorer). Well all, except Netsacpe 4.75, because back then this didn't exists yet.
Running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020908
I upgraded to Media Player 9, Went to http://launch.yahoo.com/musicvideos/, and
attempted to play a video, A new window opened with an error, asking me to
update my version of Netscape Navigator with a link to update. I also went to
http://launch.yahoo.com/launchcast/ and attempted to listen to music and
received a window with an error that said "sorry we do not support Netscape 6"
I then copied npdrmv2.dll, npdsplay.dll and npwmsdrm.dll from the Windows Media
Player folder to the Mozilla plugins folder, and received the same results. I
then checked my plugins directory for Opera 6.03 and had some additional files
(npdrmv2 A winzip file, npds A winzip file, and npwmsdrm.dll) I copied the
additional files
to my mozilla plugins directory with the same results.
It also appears that the plugin does not work with Opera 6.03 either.

Typically Micro$oft :

- the plugin is still listed in Plugin Central :
http://cgi.netscape.com/cgi-bin/pi_moreinfo.cgi?PID=10066 If you click it link,
it will try to install Media Player 9 beta. Which is useless for me, because I
use a Mac, and Media Player 9 doesn't exists there yet - but they never tell us
that the older version is still available (but no link ?)

- the system requirements never tells us what kind of browser you need (they
don't even mention that you need at least Internet Explorer 5 - they just assume
that you already have it)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player/sysreq.asp

- the FAQ never mentions that there might be problems with your webbrowser
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player/relnotes.asp
Can you please search your harddrive for npdsplay.dll, you may have multiple
versions. Once you find them, please note their location and the version of each
dll (Properties|Version). The npdsplay.dll does not have to be in the Mozilla
plug-ins directory. Can you please tell us how many npdsplay.dll files are
present and what versions they are - thanks
Locations of npdsplay.dll and version:
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player 3.0.2.627
C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins 3.0.2.627
C:\Program Files\Opera\Plugins 3.0.2.627
C:\Program Files\Mozilla.org\Mozilla\Plugins 3.0.2.627

FYI.. I tried another site and was able to play embeded media on mozilla.
http://www.hollywood.com/multimedia/detail/media/1112880
I was able to play on Mozilla and on Opera 6.03
The version of the Windows Media Control Version was: 6.4.07.1124
On IE 6 the version of Windows Media Player Showed up as 9.00.00.2799

I'm going to reinstall the Beta and see if any of the file versions change.
Joe

After reinstalling the Beta the file versions remain the same. I've also posted
the question at the media player 9 beta newsgroup.
http://communities.microsoft.com/Newsgroups/default.asp?ICP=windowsmedia&sLCID=US&newsgroup=microsoft.public.windowsmedia.beta

Thanks.

Summary: When I upgraded to windows midea player 9 beta the mozilla browesr did not update it. → When I upgraded to windows midea player 9 beta the mozilla browser did not update it
We ought to consider this one seriously: will WMP 9 leave DLLs which constitute
"Netscape Plugins" lying around in a consistent location? Note that the *names*
of some of the np* DLLs have changed, but npdsplay.dll remains constant. Some
of the DRM DLLs have changed.
Arun: what are the set of files that get installed? And where do they get placed
when you install WMP9?
I think there is a seperate evangelism problem for our browser on
http://launch.yahoo.com/musicvideos/

So I did a clean install of WinXP, ran Windows Update to get Media Player 9
Beta, then installed Netscape 7. It correct popped up as a helper application
in http://www.windowsmedia.com and it also correctly played embedded media on
this testcase:
http://slip.mcom.com/shrir/mediaplayertest.html
It seems to me we work fine with WMP 9.
