Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.80 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Thunderbird on macOS
  2. Leave it open overnight
  3. In the morning, select any message summary in any message list

Actual results:

The selected message summary line disappears, and a line of blank white background appears in between the adjacent message summaries. Selecting another message summary line causes the prior one to reappear and the newly selected one to disappear. The only solution is to restart Thunderbird.

Expected results:

The selected message summary is highlighted and still legible.

Sounds like Bug 1668989 to me...

  • Paton, does the white effect look like attachment 9179418 [details]?
  • Have you perhaps tried Dark theme and went back to light theme?
  • You mention "after app exits dark mode" in summary - can you explain?
  • Please check if your problem might be described by Bug 1668989.

Paton, does the white effect look like attachment 9179418 [details]?

No, not quite. In my experience the entire row is entirely white, with no gray bars or icons visible at all.

Have you perhaps tried Dark theme and went back to light theme?

I believe I may have done that, but I can't be certain

You mention "after app exits dark mode" in summary - can you explain?

This seems to happen only in the morning after the app has been left running overnight. I believe I recalled seeing the app change colors in the morning in conjunction with the OS switching out of dark mode, but I can't be certain of that now.

Please check if your problem might be described by Bug 1668989.

That bug seems to describe a problem that only occurs once after a user action, whereas in my experience the problem occurs every single day without action on my part. So Bug 1668989 does not properly convey the severity of the problem, which is perhaps why I didn't find it before filing this report.

Paton, is this still seen in a current version of 78?

Paton, is this still seen in a current version of 78?

No, I have not seen this recently, but I've also switched computers since I reported the bug.
