The spec seems quite sparse but I might be missing something. What's the rationale here? Is there going to be an alternative way to remove the search box? The search box currently redirects to the address bar, so it's strictly redundant, and so for people who realize this the search box seems like distraction from the other page contents they might want to use (top sites in my case).
Disabling the search box also currently disables the Firefox logo. Forcing the logo upon users is going to be seen as another distraction (see also bug 1678793).
