Attached image ecosia_firefox.png

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Accidentally delete Ecosia.org from your list of custom search engines

  2. Go to Ecosia.org

  3. Try clicking the green Plus button in the search field of Firefox

  4. Enter a search into Ecosia on the web page

  5. Try clicking the green Plus button in the search field of Firefox

  6. Go to addons.mozilla.org

  7. Add the official Ecosia addon

  8. Remove it.

Actual results:

The green Plus button which allows you to add a search engine to Firefox does not appear, neither on the main page of Ecosia.org nor on the results page. The button appears on all other websites with a search function, but not on Ecosia.org.

Adding the Ecosia addon did add the search engine, but removing the addon also removed the search engine again.

Expected results:

A green Plus button appears in the Firefox search field, allowing you to add Ecosia to your custom search engines.

Removing the search engine addon does not remove the search engine.

To restore the engine, you can go into Firefox's options, under the Search category, look for the Search Shortcuts, and then select "Restore Default Search Engines" under the table there. Note that it may also change your default engine.

We're currently working towards making that UI easier to use, and bug 1208768 is also on file for showing an option to re-enable a search engine when you visit its search page, so I'll mark this as a duplicate of that one.
