Details

(Keywords: regression)

[Affected versions]:

  • Firefox Beta 84.0 (Build ID: 20201210144358)

[Affected Platforms]:

  • Windows 10
  • macOS 10.15
  • Linux Mint 20

[Prerequisites]:

  • Be enrolled in the Treatment branch of one of the TopSites Launch Phase 3 experiments or have the preferences used set. For the US version:
  • browser.search.region set to US
  • browser.search.experiment set to amazondotcom-adm
  • browser.topsites.experiment.ebay-2020-1 set to true
  • browser.partnerlink.useAttributionURL set to true
  • browser.topsites.useRemoteSetting set to true

[Steps to reproduce]:

  1. Open a new tab.
  2. Drag the Amazon tile from position 1 to position 2 (position of eBay tile).
  3. Drag the eBay tile from position 2 to position 1 (position of Amazon tile).
  4. Observe the Top Sites tiles.

[Expected result]:

  • All tiles remain in their original positions.
  • All tiles have titles and icons displayed.

[Actual result]:

  • The Amazon tile is removed and all the other tiles (including eBay) are shifted to the left.
  • The eBay tile does not have a title or an icon displayed.

[Notes]:

  • Opening a new tab will have the Top Site tiles returned to their original positions, but the eBay tile will have lost the Sponsored status.
  • This seems a regression as the behavior differs from Fx 83.
  • This issue is not reproducible if attempting to move only one of the tiles over the other (i.e. trying to move eBay on Amazon’s position multiple times or the other way around will just keep them in their initial positions).
  • Attached is a recording of the issue.

Dao is that still a relevant bug wrt the experiment?

After the introduction of Bug 1682602, this issue is no longer reproducible as Sponsored Top Sites can no longer be moved. Tested using Firefox Nightly 88.0a1 (Build ID: 20210310215846) on Windows 10, Linux Mint 20 and macOS 10.15.7. As a result I am closing this as verified fixed.
