Details

After updating Mozilla 1.1final to 1.2alpha I had 4 shortcuts to mozilla on my
desktop. I normally have 1 shortcut but after the install 3 more appeard.
After we finally gave in to all the whining about "why isn't there an icon for
the mail app etc" we get this, of course. Likely to stay the way it is until
there's enough opposition, at which point we'll revert and start the cycle all
over again.

That is nonsense.
The installer should just ask wether to create icons or not and should allow you
to choose for which program you want an icon or not.
dupe of the big shortcut dialog bug...
