User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/87.0.4280.88 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Started Thunderbird after a new installation. Had Thunderbird installed on this PC a few years ago. Hadn't used it in years. Installed it again. It saw and inherited my previous config.

Actual results:

It generated the attached dialogs after startup. First it wanted to compress my message base, then it wanted to delete old trash. In both cases it reported nearly 40T of storage were consumed by messages and trash. I have a total of 8T connected to the PC, and the PC's local SSD is 450G.

I assume it was able to compress the database and later trash the old files, as no errors were generated, and everything seems a-ok.

Expected results:

Should report the correct amount of data that will be dealt with.

Hi RBL, could you set a more descriptive summary to describe what this is about?

OMG that is a shocking number. Screen shot says it all. Thanks for reporting it.

This is, unfortunately, bug 1260698. It would be so nice to kill that bug. Maybe by some stroke of luck you can contribute to that process.
