Hello,
Environment:
- French locale
- Thunderbird Daily in French
- Gmail in French
Steps to reproduce:
- I suspect having accent in the sent folder, here "Messages envoyés" could help having the issue.
- Add a new Gmail account to Thunderbird.
- Click on the inbox folder to make Thunderbird fetching messages and folder.
Result:
Thunderbird reports it can't fetch the "Messages envoyés" folder with a square replacing the "é" and doesn't get any messages or folders.
Expected result:
Thunderbird should be able to fetch messages and folders.
Note:
Restarting Thunderbird makes it able to get folders and messages.
Thanks in advance.

This issue is not specific to Gmail, I'm reproducing it with another mail provider.
I'm going to update the initial description.

This doesn't seem to relate to bug 1685033, I can't reproduce with an empty profile. Like Wayne said, providing the exact error message or screen shot would be helpful. Thanks.

Thunderbird reports it can't fetch the "Messages envoyés" folder with a square replacing the "é" and doesn't get any messages or folders.
Does the character get replaced with a "square" in the error message or in the actual folder tree? Then you say on restart tb resumes the download and fetches the messages and displays them OK in the expected manner (i.e., accents OK). The folder names look OK after this and you only see problems if you restart tb with network offline as in bug 1685336?
P/S: I wrote this a few days ago and never saved it and not sure it is still relevant but I'm posting it now anyhow. :)

I'm waiting the fix for the bug 1686034 to answer here. Maybe it will figure out this issue too.

Should be fixed in today's daily build?

You'd be lucky. See bug 1687452.

If it's not fixed, please mark it as a regression of bug 1571672.

Please retest now that bug 1687452 and bug 1687412 have landed.

Switched Gmail to French, used this French Daily from here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central-l10n/thunderbird-86.0a1.fr.win64.zip
Set up Gmail account on new profile. No problem, "Messages envoyés" was correctly retrieved without issues.
This was likely fixed by one of the recent regression fixes for bug 1571672. Please reopen if you still see this issue.

Since unclear what fixed it, let's call it WFM.
