RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1483485

People

(Reporter: acdp, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:85.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/85.0

Steps to reproduce:

In "Account Settings" changed the Server name from hp105.hostpapa.com to mail.thesustainablepm.com (though the mail. seems redundant!), when in Properties for the INBOX for the same account it still has the original Server name hp105.hostpapa.com

Actual results:

no server name change

Expected results:

needed to change because the second server name is a backup nd I was needing to refresh the Inbox which did not happen effectively

(Mind you need to add I was having network issues, part cos the PW goes when you change and I was not being promted for the new pw, due to net issues - resilved this whne I tethered off the mobile and then PW was prompted)

The inbox refreshed as well once PW sent... but still using the original server name !!!!

Component: Untriaged → Account Manager
Flags: needinfo?(bugzilla2007)

Confirming symptoms. I'm not sure what exactly the Inbox Location property is about for an IMAP account, maybe pointing to our local store (as it does for POP3), so I don't know if that's supposed to change or not.

This is a duplicate of Bug 1483485 and belongs to a range of issues painstakingly collected by Jörg in the following Meta bug:
Bug 1573690 - [meta] Problems caused by userName/realuserName and hostName/realhostName
I understand we keep the original server/username combo for internal handling purposes and a parallel set of real server/username. That's definitely technical stuff for developers to sort out.

Suffice to say that some of the symptoms like wrong notifications which are still using the old server name are extremely irritating for users and certainly a nightmare for support.

STR

1.) Create IMAP account with old.example.com as server name.
2.) Account settings, change server name to new.example.com
3.) Right-click on account's inbox in folder list > Properties > General information > (Inbox) Location

Actual result

  • Properties still showing imap://user@old.example.com/INBOX (that's bug 1483485, of which this is a duplicate).
  • Notifications (like "Failed to connect to server 'old.example.com') still showing the old server name (that's bug 1464047).

Expected result:

  • Properties: ?
  • Notifications should show the current server name.
