User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:84.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/84.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Navigate to "Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing"
- Uncheck "Compose messages in HTML format"
- Draft a somewhat long email (needs to be 73 or more characters with at least one space)
Actual results:
Lines wrapped at 72 characters in editor
Lines wrapped at end of frame in preview window
Expected results:
Lines wrap at end of frame in editor
Lines wrap at end of frame in preview window
This is by design. You can set pref mailnews.wraplength, then it won't wrap in the compose window (editor).
Aaah okay I thought it was intended but I couldn't find any info on word wrapping in thunderbird on DDG or in the settings GUI. Didn't know about the text-based config. Thanks!
Now kind of unrelated, but it would be nice to have some authoritative docs on Thunderbird for users, so that I could know that this is intended behavior. The Thunderbird help discussion on word wrapping seems to give the wrong answer, then later vaguely reference the correct answer: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1176365.
Re. TB user documentation, you need to contact the people in charge. (I just "accidentally" saw the bug and offered my help.)
Ah alright, just thought I'd mention it. Thanks for your help!

This is by design.
May be. I already see this in TB68.
You can set pref mailnews.wraplength, then it won't wrap in the compose window (editor).
This is correct, if format-flowed is turned off. But with format-flowed enabled (which is the default) it would make sense if the editor also uses flowed text view.
And finally nothing new: Dupe of bug 1230974
