Steps to Reproduce:
- Start Thunderbird.
- Open Help > Troubleshooting Information > about:profiles
- Create a new profile named "test.release".
Actual Results:
The profile "test.release" will be added and set as the default.
The next time Thunderbird is started, it will use this profile.
Expected Results:
The profile "test.release" will be added, but the default profile will not be changed.
Up until Firefox 66 and Thunderbird 66, creating a profile did not set it as the default profile.
User may just want to create a few profiles, or may want to temporarily launch a test profile in a new process.
Such users do not want the default profile to be set automatically.
Bug 1556603 has already been issued, but since there seems to be no movement, I have reported it as a Thunderbird bug.

confirming - I remember experiencing this as well. Let's keep this bug open, dependent on bug 1556603 (kinda sad).
