User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:85.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/85.0

Steps to reproduce:

In order to read emails, I set black text and white background in preferences > fonts and colors > colors.

Actual results:

... But this loses any contrast between the preferences sidebar and the preferences content.

Since I can't page down in the preferences, I can only scroll, but since there's no contrast and no visual separation, between the non-scrolling sidebar and the scrolling content, I get an instant severe migraine.

Users trying to cope with one visual accessibility problem shouldn't get hit with another.

Expected results:

There should be a clear visual separation, maybe a wide vertical bar, maybe inverting colors in the sidebar.

Component: Untriaged → Preferences

We should have a (minimum) 1px border in foreground_color to separate the sidebar/page content. cc micah/molly

Still not fixed in 115. I visited Preferences to try to make message lists readable, and got a nasty stabby migraine and motion sickness for my trouble.

Summary: If users set high contrast between text and background, we lose any contrast between preferences sidebar and preferences content → With high contrast between text and background, we lose any contrast between preferences sidebar and preferences content

I will take a look at this to confirm it and get some screenshots so we know better what is broken.

Thanks for reporting this.

There should be some visual separation between the sidebar and the settings content.

I tested this in 115.3.1 and 115.3.2 in Windows 11.
