Mhh... interesting effect ;-) Confirming with a CVS build from today and Debian Linux/i386. Maybe bug 9809 also plays a role here.

Yes, this is bug 9809 at work, because I don't have to use typeaheadfind to make it happen. You can also see the bug when you focus one of the ticker links by another means, e.g. by click and dragging it or right clicking on it. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 9809 ***
