No, this is not a regression from bug 1692526. I can reproduce it as far back as 85. I didn't look further. Given that, I'll drop this for higher priority work.

This goes all the way back to 75. Before that, the panel was as wide as the window and the result text still gets truncated, but it looks better because the panel seems to have a min width beyond which it doesn't shrink, and the leading edge of the result text stays in the same place. So this never really worked right.
