Details
Affected versions
- Firefox 88.0b6 (BuildId:20210401185811)
- Firefox 89.0a1 (BuildId:20210330215136)
Affected platforms
- macOS 10.14
- macOS 10.15
- macOS 11
Unaffected platforms
- Windows 10 64bit
- Ubuntu 20.04
Preconditions
- Have the following pref disabled:
apz.mac.enable_double_tap_zoom_touchpad_gesture
Steps to reproduce
- Launch Firefox.
- Access a random webpage.
- Single-tap with 2 fingers on the trackpad in order to trigger the context menu.
Expected result
- The context menu opens instantly (without any delay) since the double-tap to zoom functionality is disabled at Firefox level and there is no point to wait ~300ms for the user to perform a second double-tap.
Actual result
- It seems that the context menu opens with a short delay (~300ms) even though the double-tap to zoom functionality was disabled at Firefox level.
Regression Range
- I don’t think that this is a regression.
Notes
- The ~300ms delay seems to occur even though the double-tap to zoom is disabled at Firefox level. The ~300ms delay is no longer encountered while disabling the double-tap to zoom at OS level.

Note that you need to have tap to click enabled in the system settings to see this (not sure if that is the default or not). I see the same behaviour in Chrome and Safari and in Firefox before I implemented the double tap feature. The OS must be delaying sending the events to us when it detects it could be the start of a double tap gesture, and I'm not sure the OS could implement this in any other way.
I'm resolving this wontfix, but its more like cantfix.
