User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0
Steps to reproduce:
I write an email and in the Options menu I select to use encryption. Then I select in the same menu the encryption technology S/MIME. In the window, where I write my email, the bottom status bar on the right shows S/MIME.
Both, I as a sender and the receiver have a valid S/MIME certificate. In my Thunderbird all add-ons are deactivated.
Actual results:
Despite I explicitely selected S/MIME, the mail was encrypted with PGP (and only with my key, which completely makes no sense). The receiver of this scenario has no pgp key.
When I changed a flag it worked, but this flag should NOT overwrite my explicite selection: In the account properties ("Konten-Einstellungen"), section E2E Encryption ("Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung") there is a flag below preferred encryption technology ("Bevorzugte Verschlüsselungs-Technologie"). There I switched the radiobutton from automatic selection ("Automatische Auswahl anhand verfügbarer Schlüssel und Zertifikate") to prefer S/MIME ("S/MIME bevorzugen"). Then it seemed to work.
The strings in bracket are those from the German version of Thunderbird which I used.
Wenn das den Unterschied macht, hat die automatische Auswahl in Thunderbird einen Bug. Sie hätte nicht greifen dürfen, denn ich setzte es ja immer explizit.
Expected results:
Thunderbird should use exactly the encryption technology it shows in the bottom status bar on the right.
