Hey Toadfield,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 91.0a1 (2021-06-14), beta 90.0b7 and release 89.0 but it doesn't freeze for me.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Whiteboard: QA-not-reproducible

This also happens on a new profile and nightly.

Setting a component for this issue in order to get the dev team involved.

Component: Untriaged → Performance
Product: Firefox → Core

Have experienced this at random intervals and at random websites, no real common denominator.
Only way to resolve is to kill firefox process and restart firefox.

Occurs on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Firefox for linux.

If the browser is responsive, but just doesn't update what's displayed on the screen, then this sounds like a Graphics bug.

Could you paste the graphics section of your about:support page here?

When I am on a web page and go afk and then come back

Is this specific to when your computer suspends? Can it also happen while you are interacting with it?

Linux: We have reports for GLX (bug 1693445) and EGL/X11 (bug 1712665).

Redirect a needinfo that is pending on an inactive user to the triage owner.
:bhood, since the bug has high severity, could you have a look please?
