User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:88.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0
Steps to reproduce:
I don't always have space for a separate search bar, so I search in the address bar.
Actual results:
I have to retype my search for each engine.
Expected results:
I shouldn't have to do that.
Maybe, if users hit the back button, the 1st step back from a search should include the original search terms in the url bar, and a search engines page drawing on the list of installed engines, and the 2nd step back should include the previous page, usually the new tab page.
Note that bug 1645934 involves automatically and simultaneously search several engines. This just involves making it easier to use the same string when choosing to repeat a search with another engine.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

With search mode, this is actually a very nice idea. I think it would be an asset to be able to reuse a search mode query, even without changing the search engine while in the same time be a workflow change that I don't think would confuse users.

Bug 1636474 and especially bug 1633335 are very similar. When combined with the search shortcut buttons, the second bug would satisfy this request I think (see the duplicate bug 1696213 for example).
MarjaE, would you be OK with marking this as a duplicate of bug 1633335?
