Details

A standard split view allows you to view two parts of a document at once, with a moveable divider in between the two views. Project Builder has this, for example, as does BBEdit. This request is to add this feature to Chimera for web page display.

Not a dupe. Bug 162596 also requests that links clicked in one split view pane get loaded in the other split view pane. This bug does not request that functionality. I guess if a user does click in a link, if this req were implemented, I might suggest that the new page be loaded in the same pane, leaving the other pane as-is. Also, the UE necessary is pretty unobtrusive, and I believe the necessary code to handle is already encapsulated in NSSplitView (assuming that the main browser window is an NSView).

I've thought "when will an exotic browser be first to add this feature?" only recently. Confirming, as this would be a cool-to-have feature not causing UI clutter or other kinds of bloat (I hope). Developers, would this require Gecko enhancements?

regarding the screen shots, there's also a new widget that's present in terminal and projectbuilder now too.
See bug 111891 for an older RFE (on Mozilla). It also contains links to a few bookmarklets which demonstrate a working split window. I use them all the time to read long documents.
