In this bug I'll create about:3pane with the panes laid out and a basic folder tree and thread tree. The message pane will be handled in a separate bug.

Building D124723 and friends should be enough to see this in action. Run openContentTab("about:3pane") in the devtools. Displaying messages is only working for local mailboxes right now.
Would you possibly consider implementing Wide Thread (Bug 215661) and Stacked layouts as well, thus putting me out of misery business?
