Opens global search tab on typo in quick search box

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:92.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/92.0
Steps to reproduce:
When I type into the quick search box, it occasionally happens that I mistype something, say, "computre" instead of "computer".
Actual results:
Before I can hit the "back" button and correct myself, a new, unwanted tab opens up and searches for the mistyped word. This new global search tab is totally uncalled for and unhelpful, almost all of the time.
I don't have statistics, but this seems to happen several times a day.
Expected results:
I should be given the time to correct a mistyped word.

To be more precise: I cannot remember a single instance where this feature has actually been useful.
There doesn't seem to be any option in the settings to turn this behaviour off.

Hallo Johannes, I'm glad there's an easy way out for you - please do not press Enter at all after typing your search words in quick filter. Your search will start as soon as you pause typing for a split second. You'll only get the unwanted global search in a tab if you press Enter (again) after the quick filter search has already run and failed with no results.
So I'm not actually sure how you're getting the global search tab at all for your scenario (so I think this bug is invalid):
STR
- quick filter for wrong search word
computre(optionally pressEnterdirectly after typing - maybe you paused beforeEnterso that "no results" was already there? Or maybe you accidentally touchedEnterwhen reaching out forbackspace?)
-> no results, now TB starts to listen for anotherEnterfor global search - correct search word to
computer(optionally pressEnterat a time of your convenience)
Actual result = Expected result:
- Quick filter search for
computer - No global search tab will open
We're trying to avoid adding preferences if they don't come with a good cost-benefit ratio, so if this bug was valid, it would probably end up wontfix. We've had this behaviour for a long time, but looks like so far you're the first and the only person on record affected by this. But fortunately, as long as you don't press Enter at all, it won't ever happen.

Unfortunately, that's not true. I have just tested. I have typed in a nonsense string of characters and immediately a new tab pops up, before I have paused or typed enter. If that's not how it is supposed to work, than in it is a bug.

Unfortunately, Johannes, I can't reproduce the issue using Thunderbird 91.1.0 from Fedora on Fedora 34 Linux.
I typed some nonsense characters with Subject selected, then Body, Sender, Recipients all together and separately.
It appears you have a support issue.
Have you tried Help > Troubleshoot Mode? Maybe an extension is causing an issue.
Tried another keyboard if available?

It seems to be something that was carried over from TB 78: I started in safe mode, then I started normally again, with all extensions enabled, but the issue remained gone.
Meanwhile, I have reproduced the issue on two other computers with TB 78, and on both the issue went away after upgrading to TB 91 (without having to first resort to "troubleshoot mode")
