RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1690395

People

(Reporter: geoff.wilford, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:92.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/92.0

Steps to reproduce:

Each time I try to open an attachment, like an .docx or .jpeg file, the dialog box opens with a "you have chosen to open:" and then lists the document and the extension. It suggests "Word (default)" or "photo" default, or what ever the appropriate extension is, and asks if I would like to "do this automatically from now on" which I select. It then opens.

How I have tried to resolve this...

  • Started in troubleshooting mode with all extension off
  • From my profile I deleted the extensions, ini, extensions-preferences.json, extensions.json files to have them rebuild
  • there was a mimetypes.rdf which I deleted but was not recreated,
  • I installed a fresh copy of the software.
  • I used a an older backup copy of my profile
  • I made sure there were no errant "read only files" in the profile directory.

None of that has helped

Actual results:

However, the next document of the same extension I try and open I get the exact same dialog box. The preferences are not being saved or read from the file.

Expected results:

The next document of the same extension I try to open should be handled like I recorded in the dialog box. The preferences are not being saved or read from the file.
