Steps to reproduce:
- Switch to macOS light mode from Menu Bar -- Control Center -- Display.
- Open a Firefox window.
- Switch to macOS dark mode.
- Switch to macOS light mode again.
Actual results:
The border and shadow around the active tab button disappear after step 4.
Expected results:
The tab should always look the same in the light theme.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Theme' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

The same thing happens even after clicking outside of the Firefox window, you move the focus out of Firefox window so for me this behaviour seems expected.
After switching between dark/light themes if you move the focus back to Firefox are the border and shadow around the active tab button still missing?
Thanks.
Ok, I tried again around different states of window focus and here's the result:
- Before switching between dark/light themes, the border and shadow are always there whether the Firefox window is focused or not.
- If I toggle dark mode on and off while the Firefox window IS focused, after that the border and shadow are missing only when the window IS focused and will appear if I focus on another window.
- If I toggle dark mode on and off while the Firefox window IS NOT focused, after that the border and shadow are missing when the window IS NOT focused and will appear when the focus is back on the Firefox window.
Also I noticed that in the original report the user-agent shows Mac OS X 10.15 but I'm actually on 12.0.1.

Thanks for the details.
Managed to reproduce this issue on macOS 11.6 on Firefox Nightly 96.0a1 and on Firefox 95.0b3.
I couldn't reproduce is on Firefox 94.0.1. Will try to provide a regression range ASAP.
