Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:93.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/93.0

Steps to reproduce:

After updating to Thunderbird 91.2.1 (64-bit on Windows 10) the preferences dialog lead to a crash of thunderbird. It was possible to open the preferences dialog, but only some of the setting were visible, then (latest after moving up or down) Thunderbird became not responsive.

Actual results:

After removing the language pack UK, things are perfectly fine.
Hint on the solution came from Reddit, others seem to experience the same: https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbird/comments/qfco26/thunderbird_crashes_when_i_try_to_enter_the/

What happens after you update to 91.3.0?

Flags: needinfo?(schultz.heiko)
Version: Thunderbird 92 → Thunderbird 91

Seems the update to 91.3.0 has no impact; What happened:

  • 91.2.1, no language packs installed (previous state): all ok
  • Installation of Language pack GB, restart of TB: preferences slaggy, freezing, TB crashes
  • Upgrade to 91.3.0, restart of TB: preferences slaggy, freezing, TB crashes
  • De-installation of Language pack: all fine again.
Flags: needinfo?(schultz.heiko)

I also saw this similar bug, but as difference I only experience the issue in the preferences dialog. Startup and everything else seems perfectly fine. It still maybe the same bug, probably depending on the language pack...

Thanks. Yes, it's all the same root cause.
