From my observation, this seems Windows 11's bug, not Firefox, because I can reproduce this issue on Chrome and Edge as well. On Windows 11, the old virtual media control interface was removed, and the new one is integrated into the notification center, like this.
I'm using Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview, Dev (22483.1011), on Dell XPs 15.
STR.
- Start Firefox and play an audible media
- check the notification center
Expect.
3. the virtual media control should show
Actual.
3. the virtual media control won't display. It would display until another application starts using media control.
Here are the video examples. (Firefox / Chrome) When the control interface doesn't show up, that means the application is NOT able to receive any media keys from the SMTC class. Eg. Firefox registers a callback to know what media key is pressed by users.
I will report this issue to Microsoft and keep this bug as a place to duplicate the same issue, if anyone encounters this issue as well.
