Looks like it's crashing for OOM (out of memory) for whatever reason.

It shouldn't be connected with my hardware specs because I have 32 Gb of RAM and enough disk space.

OOM can be a symptom of language packs bug(s) in current versions.
Try removing yours, langpack-es-ES, langpack-pt-PT and langpack-fr

How do I remove them?
I only have US English.

tools > add-ons
I don't have any language there under addons. Only two extensions enabled "Remove Duplicate Messages" and "Toggle Quotes". Under dictionaries I have default British English and Croatian.
Btw, I tried many times to start TB in Safe mode (that automatically disables addons), but there also my problem is present.

I connected someone else's crash report for language packs to the wrong bug

As I said, if there are no language packs or any addons, it is still crashing.

Duly noted. I've refined my comment 10.
Please attach a saved sample .eml that crashes ("attach new file" above comment 0), or PM me with the sample.

Does folder properties | Repair Folder help?
Dean?
Dean sent me a sample on 11/12. The file labeled "email that won't open (crashes)" contains over 1200 lines of "Received: from", so it surely is a mashup of emails.
So it's either bug 1742975 or its forebearer

Repair folders didn't help.
I deleted all local storage and pulled from IMAP everything fresh.
Now those mails open with no problem (and with no high CPU or memory leak). I wish I could resolve it more easier without refreshing 40 Gb of content, but at least it is working now.

Let's assume the cause (and solution) rests with bug 1742975.
We can always reopen
