User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/96.0.4664.45 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Thunderbird 91.3.1
  2. Click on the humburger icon menu button
  3. Click on "Preferences"

Actual results:

Thunderbird crashes a couple of seconds later. Sometimes the content of the "General" tab is loaded, sometimes it isn't. The crash report created by Thunderbird itself is attached as a file.

Expected results:

Thunderbird does not crash.

I've downgraded to 91.3.0 (installer https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/thunderbird/releases/91.3.0/win64/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%2091.3.0.exe) and the "Preferences" tab doesn't crash anymore for me.

Please see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-crashes and report back.

In version 91 the issue tends to be specifically Mac, or language pack.
disable language pack that matches your Thunderbird's language at tools > addons.

Whiteboard: [closeme 2021-12-01]

I have the same problem on two different computers running Windows 10. With the troubleshoot mode on, the preferences are fine. The problem occurs with German and English (US). Even after completely uninstalling Bitdefender Total Security, the problem persists and is reproducible every time. No add-ons are installed after removing Bitdefender.

Both computers are running:
TB: 91.3.2 (32-bit)
Win: 10.0.19042 Build 19042 (20H2) - one Win Pro, the other Win Home

Downgrade to 91.3.1 did not help.
Downgrade to 91.3.0 did help.

contact me if you need more details.

Please post your findings after you update to 91.4.0, available later next week.

I've got the same problem with TB 91.3.2 and couldn't solve it like others above by e.g. changing to an external program for PDF files.

The problem vanished after rolling back to TB 91.3.0.

UW, your crashes are @ OutOfMemory | small and @ OutOfMemory | large

Please post whether https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/candidates/91.4.0-candidates/build1/ helps you

Still the same problem. TB 91.4.0 and Bitdefender Toolbar activated "removes" the CardBook add-on completely!

If the CardBook tab was open before activating Bitdefender it is closed after restarting TB. Addionally the CardBook icon and menu entry are removed.

Ups... forgot:
The preferences tab now works fine again.

TB 91.4.0 fixes the problem with the preferences on both computers.

Regarding the OOM, I suspect a bug that caused this. The less powerful system has more than 3.5 GB available, the more powerful more than 24 GB. The free memory on both systems exceed the 2 GB limit of the 32 bit process. With 91.4.0 the maximum memory usage is less than 330 MB.

Note: Bitdefender does not currently cause any problems.
