User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

Steps to reproduce:

Selecting a folder.
Selecting a message
Putting mouse pointer in selected message content frame in order to scroll it down through mouse wheel.
Scrolling mouse wheel, nothing happens.

Actual results:

I had to first click in selected message content frame with left button, then was able to scroll down message content.

Expected results:

I should have been able to scroll down message content through mouse wheel without having to click first in selected message content frame with left button, if the pointer is already in selected message content frame.

Note : thunderbird 91.5.0 (64 bits)
System : Linux Debian 11 Bullseye
Kernel : 5.10.0-11-amd64

Summary: scrolling message content frame → scrolling message content frame doesn't work with mouse wheel
Component: Folder and Message Lists → Message Reader UI

Hello,
I have to say that this problem is not always present.
It occurs principally when I open thunderbird and try to scroll a message for the first time.
I did not see this behavior with older versions of Thunderbird.

Additional info:

As I said, this problem is not always present, but when it is, I can add these new steps to reproduce:

--- Open thunderbird
--- Open a folder
--- select a message that can be scrolled (one that has a scroller)
--- place the pointer in the message frame, and possibly move it
--- try to scroll message through mouse wheel, nothing happens
--- yet move again the pointer in the message frame
--- try again to scroll message through mouse wheel, it works !

I have the same issue, Win10, TB 91.7.0 (64-bit)

The mouse wheel doesn't affect the message pane unless the TB window is in focus. It appears to function as expected in the folder and thread panes, i.e. scrolls whether the TB window is in focus or not. If I turn on the pref mousewheel.debug.make_window_under_cursor_foreground, then the message pane will scroll but it puts the TB window in focus first, which is not desirable.

I will also mention my experience is not consistent behavior, either.

Windows 10
Thunderbird 91.7.0

Feedback - If I hover over any part - Folder Pane, Thread Pane, Message Pane (assuming selected email is displaying)
The mouse wheel functions to auto scroll up/down - assuming there is a vertical scrollbar.

I'm using a Razer Deathadder rz01-0015 mouse.
No delays experienced.

There seems to be a significant delay (5-10 seconds, sometimes more) before the mouse wheel starts functioning as expected in the message pane. I have not noticed any such delay in either the folder or thread pane. Weird. It's a run of the mill Logitech mouse, which should not require any special driver.

Problem solved with last Thunderbird update (102.3.0 (64 bits)) in Debian 11.
Message content scrolling is yet normal again with mouse wheel.
Thanks to correctors.
Lucien
