My Gmail Inbox operates as if it was the draft folder so opening any message takes me to a compose message screen

Steps to reproduce:
When right clicking on new message in my Gmail Inbox the first option available (in bold) is Edit Draft Message. Double clicking also opens automatically in draft mode as detailed below.
Inspected properties of folders and confirmed that Inbox and Draft properties are idenctical, i.e. with no retention tab, unlike every other created folder.
(The Inbox folder for my other email account (simonbattley@btinternet.com) also in Thunderbird continues to work fine. I can also access my gmail inbox using Microsoft mail, via the internet or on my phone as normal with no problem)
Actual results:
If I open any message in my Gmail Inbox it opens in a non-graphic screen, with a yellow band warning "A unique identity matching the From address was not found. The message will be sent using the current From field and settings from identity (my name and email address).
Expected results:
It should have opened in read mode with the normal "To protect your privacy Thunderbird has blocked remote contet in this message" if necessary.
Could you please try the following and report back on results:
In Thunderbird
Menu app icon > Help > More Trounbleshooting information
Under 'Application Basics' - 'Profile Folder' - click on 'Open Folder'
A new window opens showing contents of your profile name folder.
Exit thunderbird now - this is important.
Scroll down, locate and delete the following files:
folderTree.json
global-messages-db.sqlite
panacea.dat
session.json
virtualFolders.dat
Click on 'Mail' folder
Delete this folder: 'smart mailboxes'
Start Thunderbird
Test opening message in Message Pane.
If Account Settings > Copies & Folders for 'Drafts' has the 'Inbox' selected instead of 'Drafts' then select 'Drafts' and restart Thunderbird.
Otherwise it sounds like a FolderFlag has been set incorrectly for unknown reason.
Use 'folderFlags' addon. This applies a 'Flags' tab in the folder 'Properties'. This enables you to uncheck the 'Drafts' on effected folder.
