More of a question, tracking bug, etc.
At the moment, I have no idea how the GRE installer behaves when installed over
the network. Currently all of our install packages are static (i.e. fully
self-contained)
Questions include, "what sequence of logic is used by the embedding app
installer and then by the GRE installer to determine the presence of existing
installations before pulling down files from the network", and so on.

I'm inclined to close this as invalid but we should talk it through first.
(Asking the questions isn't invalied, of course :-) )
So, the current thinking is that GRE installer will be a blob only. The client
installer will be responsible to figure out download issues. The client
installer can determine if the GRE installer is already available locally (see
bug #169579). If not, the client installer will download the GRE blob
installer. So the Gre installer does not need to be network/download savvy.

Old-style GRE is no more, XULRunner has replaced it.
