Another highly requested improvement from the Contributor Survey 2022 is the ability to create a draft for an unfinished article without making it a revision.

As a reference, article localization has that functionality: bug 619284

Any chance that this will be fixed? With the recent increase in 502 Bad Gateway errors, this is becoming more of a problem.

I wonder why we have drafts for localized revisions but not for en-US...

... this as not seen as a priority for English, because we have the "changes needed" field, where you can mention that the article is not ready yet. No such feature exists for localized articles.

Lol. Anyway, from the first look, it should be easy to add this to the KB?..

I've filed a GH issue and submitted a PR.

Please note that it enables drafts only when editing articles, not creating new ones.

Currently, drafts are tied to documents, so implementing drafts for new articles would require more fundamental changes. One that I've thought of is to publish the new document together with saving a draft for it, but make it restricted so that only the author (and admins) have access.

Not directly related, but allowing authors to see the articles they've created would be (IMO) very useful in general.
