User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:99.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0

Steps to reproduce:

I often have to save a document that arrives as an attachment in an e-mail, for example because I need to retain a copy of it in my local storage. I can do this on the current design by right clicking "save as" on the specific attachment, then selecting the location in my hard drive to store. However, I often also have to open that same file, which means that I have to open a file explorer, find again the location where I stored it, and then carry out my business (e.g., fill in the form).

Expected results:

It would be much convenient if there was an option in that same menu that did "save as and open", which would open the file saved with the OS's default program. I think that would save a lot of people a significant amount of time. An alternative (or complementary) solution, perhaps even better, would be to have an option that would "save as + open folder", which would open a file explorer in the location where the user has just saved the file. That also facilitates the user then immediately attaching the modified file back to a new response e-mail.

Thanks Miguel for this feedback. You are right - the workflow is broken (as I've been pointing out for long): We have the functionality, but it's undiscoverable - my Bug 1351219.

Workaround:
In the meantime, after saving your attachment, kindly use Ctrl+J or ≡ > Tools > Saved Files to open the Saved Files Tab. From there, you can directly open the saved attachment, or the containing folder, which covers both of your usecases well in a generic way.

Save and Open is bug 297662.
