Steps to reproduce:

When writing a NEW Email I usually start typing the To Person and the Email info shows up. NOT WORKING in the past week or so. ALSO tried to search in the actual ADDRESS BOOK file ALSO NOT WORKING.

Did you try Help > Troubleshoot mode?

Most everything was working well till a few days ago. Then I noticed the problem with Address Book. Now I have LOST one of my IMPORTANT LOCAL folders and can't copy it from my backup to restore. I'm going to give up on 103 till STABLE and go back to 91.
And now this process is giving me a hard time. I thought I could uninstall 103 reinstall 91 and fix the profiles.

It seems you missed the questions in comment 1?
If you really are using 103, then those are daily development builds and should never be considered to be stable.

    Note I am a Windows 11 INSIDER (BETA) and am willing to help test things!

Daily's are alpha's, not even close to beta. You can try launching TB 91 with --allow-downgrade to get your profile back to working but don't expect it to act normal. Changes made to the profile by post-91 versions of TB are likely to cause issues.

No offense to anyone. I liked 103 for the month or so that I got to use it! BUT I am busy with other things at the moment and can't afford the time.
I did get 91 back up and my Email info transferred back to it. At this moment the address book info needs to be rebuilt but that is where I was heading in 103 anyway. Thanks for your input.

For whatever it's worth, I can't reproduce this on MacOS. Daily 103.0a1 (2022-06-11) (64-bit)

Auto-complete in To: working fine as normal, as is search in AB.

Thomas, in your many travels in address book, are there recent reports of broken AB?

If there's nothing to pin this to, unfortunately I don't think it is actionable.

Thomas, in your many travels in address book, are there recent reports of broken AB?

Haven't seen any, also tried a couple of targeted searches like this (for some reason, won't let me create short URL for this, I edited a quick search)

From that list, the two below are remotely similar, but also quite random.
Bug 1772570 - Address book won't load, default search select unpopulated, spelling dictionary selection not persistent.
Bug 1730932 - Address Book not visible in Version 91 - autocomplete works, but AB looks like it is empty (Fedora Linux)

Butch, what type of AB are you using?

  • Local AB
  • CardDAV AB (e.g. Google Contacts)
  • LDAP AB

Did you try Help > Troubleshoot mode?

Wayne was asking you to restart TB using ≡ > Help > Troubleshoot Mode… and see if that cures the problem?
This step is crucial to exclude add-on interference.

Hello!
Looks like I have the same Issue. I have just updated my ThunderBird 91 to ThunderBird 102.1.0 and found that Address autocomplete does not work.

Steps to reproduce:

  • open new mail window
  • try to write first symbols of email from my Address Book
  • email does not appear! (reproduced)

BUT!!!

If I change window using Alt+Tab hotkey (I use Windows 10) and then immidiatly back to the mail window (again press Alt+Tab) it works well.

My guess:
I suppose, there is a function which makes possible (being called ) to load emails from Address Book and so use autocomplete. So, I think this function for some reasons does not work then I open a new window, but it works than I activated previously opened window.

That's my guess. Hope this will help.

I tried Help > Troubleshoot Mode… and this helped...

I am using quite a lot of addons. I will try to find one which interferes...

We found one) Next week we will try to debug and fix it.
